J.A. LeVitt can't remember a time that she didn't like to
write. As a young person, she filled spiral notebooks with dramatic epics that she sometimes shared with her friends. While
growing up near Birmingham, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida, she often visited her grandparents in a company town remarkably
similar to the one in Ghosts of Whitner. When asked if ghosts there inspired the book, Ms LeVitt only smiles.
After receiving her master's degree in reading and writing from the University
of North Texas, Ms LeVitt taught those subjects in Dallas for many years before becoming a writer of children's novels.
A voracious reader, she was inspired by many adult mystery writers as well as children's writers like Mary Downing Hahn
and Betty Ren Wright.
Mrs. LeVitt now lives in central Texas
on a pink granite hilltop overlooking a lake with her artist husband, Michael, four dogs and one cat. She and her husband
welcome visits from her children, grandchildren and assorted grand dogs. Ghosts of Whitner, published by WordWright, is Ms
LeVitt's first book.
She has now finished her second book
and is now starting a third book.
